Support & FAQs
Cashflow Plan Home simplifies the task of planning and building a personal, family or household budget or detailed cash flow statement. It incorporates a comprehensive 9-page User Guide, You can also view it here as a standalone PDF home-guide.pdf or in the widow opposite or below on a mobile.
If using the Premium version, you must enable Excel's macros when requested during loading so that menus and tools can work. If unfamiliar with this simple task, refer to this PDF diagram cash-macros.pdf (also contained within Cashflow Plan. In the event of a problem or query, please refer to the FAQs below before contacting us for support.
As the Free version of Cashflow Plan is supplied 'as is' without any fee, PlanWare is not obliged to support users. However, a periodically updated list of FAQs about loading and using is maintained below to assist new and existing users.
FAQs - Loading Cashflow Plan
We welcome user feedback on using Cashflow Plan on different devices, operating systems and spreadsheet types.
Q. How do I enable macros when loading the Premium version?
This PDF diagram cash-macros.pdf explains how to enable macros for multiple releases of Excel. This task is essential for the Premium version.
Q. Can I change the Excel file type from the supplied XLS to XLSX or XLSM?
For the Free version, change the file type to XLSX by selecting this file type when saving.
For the Premium version, you can change the file type to XLSM by following these instructions: Load a copy of the XLS file, select File, Info, Convert Compatibility Mode and then select the following prompts: OK, Yes, OK, Enable Content. Note that the following minor menu options will no longer work: *Help About Cashflow Plan, *Tools/Setup Enter Plan Title in Footers .... and *Tools/Setup Set View for all Reports.
Q. Can I transfer the Cashflow Plan XLS file to OneDrive for use with Excel on the cloud?
Yes, simply save a copy of the supplied XLS file for the Free version onto your OneDrive and access it from a desktop copy of Excel.
If you wish to save a copy of the Premium version as an EXLSM file onto OneDrive, you must convert it from XLS to XLSM before saving it to OneDrive - see previous question for instructions.
FAQs - Using Cashflow Plan
We invite users to contribute feedback and suggestions to extend these FAQs.
Q. Can I change printer orientation from portrait to landscape?
Yes. This will increase the size of text in reports but print reports over many more pages. If using Excel 2010 or higher, you may need to change Print Settings for scaling to Fit All Columns on One Page.
Q. Can I print reports as PDFs?
Yes. Just change the Printer type to PDF. If using the Premium version, the print menus will automatically use this type once you have set it.
Q. When should I use 000 (thousands) as the currency denomination?
If using US$, Stg or euro, it is very unlikely that you'll need to use 000 unless you are very rich or have massive borrowings. If using Yen or other low denomination currency units, you might need to use 000. The best approach is to enter a typical large value e.g. monthly salary or highest expected debt and see if the ###### appear in reports. If they do appear, set the denomination to 000 and enter all assumption values as thousands e.g. enter 1,520 as 1.520 (note the decimal point instead of comma). Note also that Cashflow Plan will display this value as 2 in reports and on screen even though it will use 1.52 in calculations.
Q. Cashflow Plan Home's business cashflow planner is too basic, what should I do?
Consider acquiring one of the 12-month business cashflow planners within Cashflow Plan's business range - details at Cashflow Plan Details . If you need multi-year proforma projections, look into the Exl-Plan range at Exl-Plan Details. Both ranges generate fully-integrated monthly/annual income statement, cashflows, balance sheets, ratio analyses along with charts, what-if tools and other faculties.
Q. Can I delete unused rows?
No, but you can use your spreadsheet to hide them. If using a Premium copy you can instruct it (via *Tools/Setup, Print No Empty Rows) to automatically hide all unused rows in assumption and output reports during printing. This results in very compact and clutter-free reports.
Q. Do I have to enter values for every assumption row in the Incomes and Expend sheets?
Absolutely not as Cashflow Plan runs satisfactorily with minimal assumption values. Obviously, the more detail you enter, the better should be the projections. However, be aware that the phrase 'garbage in, garbage out' might apply if key assumptions are skimped or unrealistic. Also, spend more time determining big values than trivial amounts (even though these can add up).
Q. Can I add extra assumption rows?
See Changing Cashflow Plan in the User Guide built into the supplied spreadsheet.
Q. Can you explain about sheet and cell protection?
As supplied, all sheets are protected. However, all cream-coloured cells and text in blue in first column within assumption reports are unprotected to facilitate entry of assumption values and changing of some variable descriptions. Sheet protection can be removed using your spreadsheet's commands or, if using Premium, via its menu system. We strongly recommend making a backup copy before turning off sheet protection and making structural changes to reports etc. For more help, see the User Guide built into Cashflow Plan or view home-guide.pdf
Q. In Bank sheet, how do I calculate Estimated expend paid using card(s)?
Cashflow Plan calculates Estimated total expenditure excluding financial charges/payments taxation and investments/savings. Use this total along with historic patterns to enter Estimated expend paid using card(s) for each month. Where monthly payments using cards are relatively constant relative to total expenditure, you could use simple percentage formulae instead of values.
